ABOUT

Sven MacNeil writes on governance, public trust, and civic institutions in Toronto. His work focuses on how institutional design shapes real-world outcomes in cities, with particular attention to accountability systems, public legitimacy, and the gap between policy on paper and policy in practice. His writing examines how civic failures emerge not as isolated scandals, but as structural breakdowns in oversight, incentives, and organizational culture.

He studied political science and business at York University and public relations at Humber College. He is a former small business owner in hospitality and has an additional background in real estate.

Outside of writing, he is a father to a 17 year old, lover of all the dogs and cats, and a long-suffering supporter of Toronto sports teams.
